A picture of Dave Macnab

I have over 30 years experience working in the public and private sector in all parts of the UK, in all sectors and also in Europe where I have provided facilitated support to senior leaders and first time managers

My interest is to provide evidence based learning that is impactful and that drives individual and organisational performance.

My approach adapts organisational development cycle so that any intervention is based on understanding the root cause of the issue before offering up solutions. Sometimes training and development may in fact not be the answer to the challenge.

I believe that learning and development design and delivery needs to keep pace with what neuroscience is telling us about how people learn. My design and delivery recommendations are aligned to the latest thinking on how people learn – including active engagement, the role of emotions in retention, ensuring attention and consolidation*.

As a Fellow of the Learning and Performance Institute I think it is incumbent on me to keep up to date with the latest thinking on how to link learning with performance and that is a key building block in my design.

I have now embarked on another transition myself in setting up my own learning and development consultancy business with the aim of having a more balanced life and an ability to work with a variety of different people and organisations.  I believe that it is never too late to learn.  Being good at one thing does not automatically give a leg up in another.  Sometimes we have to unlearn stuff too.

I have decades of experience in leadership and management design and delivery.  I have started Scottish gaelic and here I am a total novice.  It is refreshing to recall what it is like fumbling about with new things – it keeps me real.  No one has all the answers. I start with lots of questions.

In my spare time I am the Chair of a charity in north Edinburgh Granton Youth.  I love to run long distances – so far two ultra marathons (novice at this distance).

Is mise Daibhadh ( I am David). Do get in touch via e mail davidmacnab89@gmail.com or call 07973321970.
